Independence Day, 2002

The house is nearing completion. The house is painted and trimmed, the counters are just about finished, and the appliances are installed. Both decks are finished except for railings. We began moving in appliances this afternoon, even as we continued with final touches.

This is perhaps the most attractive house we have built, and it is certainly on the most attractive site. We have enjoyed the copious shade in the areas cleared by Mr. Siler for what is soon to be his lawn.

A highlight of the day occurred at 3:14. Several young men were listening to music on the radio as the worked on teh deck and other activities. The radio began to play "Proud to be an American," and the group quickly formed a chorus, and joined in singing the song. All work stopped to listen. It was a perfect reminder of the significance of the day.

We plan dedication for tomorrow at 3:00, and we hope to have things pretty much packed up by then.

Please continue to keep us in your prayers.
