Second Mission Day | Day 4 | NYC Mission Trip

Today groups 1 and 2 worked in a senior center in the morning. They helped with a food and clothing pantry.

Groups 3 and 4 in the morning worked at a East New York Farms in Queens. We did everything from transplanting vegetables to making compost.

Both groups 1 and 2, 3 and 4, did a neighborhood immersion experience. Groups 1 and 2 were in Washington Square, while groups 3 and 4 were in Union Square. This involves finding out the rent price of a nearby 1 bedroom apartment, going to a ‘mom and pop’ shop and asking various questions about how long they have been there and how the neighborhood changed, and finally everyone was given $2 to spend on dinner, the groups could pull their money together and get themselves something to eat or get food for a homeless person. This experience was very touching meaningful to many in the group because it opened our eyes to how being homeless in NYC really is and it challenged us to get out of our comfort zone and approach people we’ve never seen or talked to before.

Afterwards we all went and saw Spongebob Squarepants on Broadway in the Palace Theatre. It was a very fun and exciting musical and everyone in the group enjoyed it. Also, a friend of Jeff’s played a major character (Mr. Krab) in the musical.

It was a very fun day and we can’t wait for the rest of the week and the continued mission projects. We are feeling your prayers at work with us in NYC and we ask that you continue to pray for us. Thanks to everyone!

(We apologize for this late post, we got back late from the show and there was no time to publish the post)

First Mission Day | Day 3 | NYC Mission Trip

For our mission work, our group split into two different groups and did different mission projects throughout the city. Groups 1 and 2 started the morning with a Manhattan Prayer Tour and spent the afternoon at a Senior Center serving and packing food containers.

Groups 3 and 4 started the morning with serving and worshiping with the folk at the Recovery House of Worship in Brooklyn. We did a mini-devotional worship experience with songs and shares of thankfulness. We spent the afternoon doing a Prayer Tour in Queens and seeing the injustices, poverty, and homelessness (Fact: over 60,000 people are homeless in NYC).

Groups 1 and 2 finished the day eating at a Chinese restaurant in China town Manhattan. Groups 3 and 4 finished the day eating at a Vietnamese restaurant in Queens.

Hillsong + Times Square | Day 2 | NYC Mission Trip

This morning we went to church at Hillsong New York in Times Square. For those that don’t know what Hillsong is, it is a global church that is known for its music, the APB band plays some of their songs in the Re:Creation service.

Afterwards we went to lunch at John’s Pizza in Times Square. Then we visited shops and walked around.

Tomorrow we begin our mission work. Half the group will begin working at a soup kitchen and the other half will do a prayer walk in Manhattan. Please continue to pray for us and our impact on the people we interact with and that God’s will will be done through us.

Graduates to Be Recognized June 3

Spring is in the air and graduate processionals will soon be heard around our community. Our congregation will be honoring this year’s graduating class during the morning worship service on June 3. We would like to recognize all the high school and post-high school graduates. Please contact Jeff if you or someone in your family is graduating.

We need name, school, and degree conferred. This information should be in to the church office or to Jeff no later than May 13.

We look forward to celebrating this accomplishment with our graduates and their families on Sunday, June 3.

The Power of a Simple Envelope

Our High School Youth are headed to New York City in June and they have one more goal to help get them there!

Our high school youth are hard at work preparing for our upcoming trip to New York City. We are journaling, reading scripture, and spending time praying about our trip. During this time, we value your ongoing prayers and encouragement.

A question we often hear is how will we pay for a trip like this. Any trip like this can be expensive for our people. Fundraising has been a considerable part of our past mission efforts. The recent smash hit Dinner and a Show raised a considerable amount of money and we had fun doing it. The other major fundraiser we do is “144 Envelopes.”

From May 13 through June 3, the mission team team will host a table outside of Smith Hall. On this table will be 144 envelopes. The outside of each envelope will have a dollar amount printed on it – $1, $2, $3 and so forth all the way to $144. Inside each envelope will be a letter from one of the team members talking about the upcoming trip.

Here is how you can help:

  • Choose an envelope with the preferred donation amount
  • Open the envelope and replace the participant letter with the suggested donation
  • Place the envelope with donation in the slot at the Giving Kiosk or pay for the donation by debit/ credit card at the Giving Kiosk
  • Take the participant letter home and use it as a reminder to pray for the trip

We know that everyone will be praying and encouraging us as we prepare. If you are able to give at any level, our team is thankful for your generosity and trust. We will strive to represent Christ with honor as we take all the blessings from College Park and use them to share His love.

Our Youth Ministry thanks you!

Another Incredible Basketball Season is in the Books!

Thank you for supporting our basketball teams this season!

We have much to be thankful for as another successful basketball season has come and gone. We had sixty young people involved across four teams. From preschool to high school, many young people were impacted with the love of Christ by seven coaches, incredible parents and countless supportive adults. It is clear that God continues to use this ministry for His glory and purpose. It will be time for next season before you know it!

Children’s Camp is Coming!
