Pastor Emeritus
Charles grew up in Elkin, North Carolina where he was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was graduated from Wake Forest College in 1957, the first class to graduate on the new campus in Winston Salem. Upon graduation he entered Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and received his Bachelor of Divinity degree in 1960. He later updated that to a Master of Divinity. Returning for further study, he completed the Doctor of Ministry degree in 1975.
In 1959 Charles married Julia Felton, a school teacher in Raleigh, NC. They have two children, Cheryl and Brian. There are three grandchildren.
Park Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids, NC called Charles as pastor in 1960. He later served at Arlington Street in Greenville, NC and Zebulon Baptist Church before being called to College Park in 1981.
After serving for twenty years he retired in the year 2000. College Park subsequently named him Pastor Emeritus.
