July 1, 2003

A very good day at the work site. We are ahead of schedule for a Friday completion, in spite of the heavy rains of yesterday, compliments of Tropical Depression Bill. There was a light mist much of the day, but the mist stopped long enough for us to begin painting in the afternoon. The main problem from weather was the resulting mud -- we have lots and lots of mud, but some people in other cultures actually pay for mud baths, so we can't complain too much.

In spite of the mud and the steep site, the week has progressed quite safely. No injuries. We are putting out many bales of straw to help with footing, and people are being careful not to take shortcuts up steep slippery banks.

It is interesting just how much a steep site affects the little things. Putting a toolbox down in a van or trailer does not mean it will stay there. Things keep sliding onto each other, making it harder to sort through things.

Don Wilson, fortunately, has set up a level and well-organized tool bus and tent that is keeping everyone else supplied and moving. His weeks of prepartion are paying off.

The photos from today show a few photos of our lunch time and devotional, part of every day. The food is fantastic, and the devotionals (led yesterday by Brendan Elkins and today by Mark Matthews) have been meaningful and well suited to our working conditions. The lunch break is a great time for fellowship and recharging ourselves.

The exterior of the house is now painted, all the sheetrock is up and mudded, and nearly all the wiring has been pulled.

As can be seen from the accompanying photos, we still have time for some fun up here. We gathered for a hot dog supper at the First Baptist Church of Williamsburg. Illness prevented the Askins for providing the anticipated musical entertainment, but the facility was great for our dinner and gave a good chance for some in the group to play basketball.

Afterwards, we headed back to the hotel and lounged around the pool to unwind.

Weather tomorrow is pretty to be rather nice, so we are hoping to be able to stay on schedule.

Keep us in your prayers!
