Upcoming Events, 10/6/2019 edition

  • Join us for supper Wednesday at 5:45 p.m. We will be having pizza, salad bar, fruit and dessert. Please note the time change. We ask that the children and children’s workers are allowed to go to the head of the line so they can be on time for their activities.
  • Deacons met on Wednesday evening at 7:30.
  • College Parkers meet this Thursday, October 10 at 11:30 a.m. Following our covered-dish lunch, Ramon Smith will be providing a presentation on participation in the mission emphasis “In our Jerusalem, Judea, and the ends of the earth.”
  • We are collecting for the North Carolina State Missions Offering. Our church goal is $3,000. This is a special offering that supports the ministries of Baptists on Mission, Church Planting, mission camps, associational projects and mobilization ministry projects. Disaster Relief through Baptist Men is supported by this offering.
  • It is time for our deacon election process for the upcoming year. We will be electing six deacons. Nominations close on Sunday, October 13. Nomination boxes are located at the Welcome Desk, in the Garden Lobby, on the tables outside the piano and organ entrances to the Sanctuary, in the Coffee Room on the lower level of the Education Building, and in the information lobby at the bottom of the stairs. Please be in prayer about who God would have to serve in these leadership positions.
  • Grub Club will be meeting at Dave & Buster’s on October 21 at 5:30 p.m. Sign up at the Welcome Desk.
  • The Trunk-or-Treat is part of our annual Fall Family Festival, being held on Sunday, October 27, which is an event designed to reach out to our community. We would like decorated vehicle trunks for kids to come visit. The trunks can be decorated with any child-centric theme. If you can help, call Jeff (336-978-4686) or send him an email at jeff@collegepark.ws.
  • At our Church Conference in October, we will be voting on a motion to remove the “3-year term” for Church Clerk in our Constitution.

Deacon nominations open through Oct. 13

It is time to nominate Deacons!

Any member of the church may nominate up to six individuals for the upcoming Deacon Election.  Nominees must be resident church members, age 21 and above.  This form may be mailed to the church office, returned through the Sunday School,  placed in the offering plate during a worship service, or placed in one of the specially-marked boxes located throughout the church.  All forms must be in by October 13, 2019.  All nominees who are willing, able, and qualified to serve will appear on the ballot on November 10, 2019.  Those elected will begin service in January 2020.

  • Max Lucado says that many Christians underestimate what happened to them upon conversion. Trusting Christ is more than a removal of sin. It is a deposit of power. “Could you use more energy? You have it. More kindness? It’s yours. Could you use some self-control, self-discipline, or self-confidence? God has already given them to you. You just need to claim your inheritance.” (Lucado)
    Join us for our study of Glory Days by Max Lucado. Our study began Wednesday, September 11 at 6:30 pm. This is a 7-8 week study. Our time will be led by Steve Loftis. Please sign up at the Welcome Desk.
  • College Parkers will enjoy their annual Great American Hotdog Feast on Thursday, September 19th at 11:30am. Come enjoy a few dogs with all the fixings and be entertained by an award winning Barber Shop Quartet, “Sound Counsel,” who never disappoints. We do ask that you chip in $5 to help offset the cost of the meal.

  • Join us for supper Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. We will be having fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, biscuits and a dessert.
  • The annual prayer circle around the downtown jail will be Friday, September 13th. Please join us to pray for offenders, their families, law enforcement staff and their families. The prayer begins at 6:00 p.m., please try to be at the jail by 5:45 or so. If you are interested, please let Karen Lefler or Barry Nelson know. If we have enough with interest, we can take a bus at 5:30.
  • Grace Notes begins this week at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Come join us if you have an interest in singing with us!

All we ask of our adults is to keep these students in their ongoing prayers as well as communicate with them on a periodic basis. This is a simple task that has eternal impact. Please pray about being part of this invaluable ministry.
