First-Ever Youth Interplanetary Mission Trip Blasting Off in 2020

photo of moon

Every two years, our high school students go on a mission trip either to a domestic or international location. And in 2020, they will be blasting off in College Park’s first-ever interplanetary mission trip to the Moon!

The purpose of this trip is to lay the foundation for future mission teams to share the Gospel in a human colony on the natural satellite. Team members will participate in prayer walks across the surface of the Moon, help build habitats for future colonists, lead a Vacation Bible School for the local children, and visit the alien base that is known to exist on the dark side of the moon!

Through a partnership with the Interplanetary Missions Organization (IMO), our group will be able to minister and stay in different communities on the Moon. IMO is a Christian organization that enables churches to take mission trips to different planets throughout our solar system. Through fundraising events like Dinner and a Show, College Park is able to offer the opportunity for high school students to go on this mission trip and many others.

If a high school student is interested in going on this mission trip, please contact Jeff Allen, the Associate Pastor of Students and Families.

We are excited about this mission trip in 2020 and can’t wait to minister to the people of the Moon!

Note: If you haven’t caught on yet, April Fools! While our youth won’t actually go to the Moon for their mission trip in 2020, they will be heading to an international country. We believe our mission trips are vital to the spiritual health and upbringing of our youth and necessary in the fulfillment of The Great Commission and College Park’s mission. Because of the support of College Park and it’s members, and through different fundraising events, like the Dinner and a Show that took place last month, the youth of College Park are able to go on these amazing trips. Thank you for your support! To learn more about Youth Missions, click here. To see where we went on our most recent mission trip, click here.

Summer Internship Applications Available

One of the best ministries that College Park offers is our internship program. We currently have one summer position open.

The intern works either in the children’s ministry area or the youth ministry area. This would depend on the interest/skills of the candidate. The intern would be given specific duties within those age groups and work together with other staff to implement the summer family ministry plan.

Applications are currently being received. All college/divinity school students interested in teaching or call to ministry are welcome to apply.

Applications are now available. If you would like an application or if you have any questions, please feel free to contact Jeff Allen, the Associate Pastor for Students and Families, at jeff@collegepark.ws or (336) 978-4686.

Youth Spring Break Retreat

April 12-15 at Garden City Chapel

$160 ($135 for additional youth from the same family)

Our youth group is going to the beach for 3 days during spring break for a great retreat of fun, food, and merriment (how many times have you seen THAT word used in a sentence)! We will be staying at Garden City Chapel for three nights.

What will we be doing?
We will be doing it all—going to Myrtle Beach, doing missions work, shopping, eating out, hanging out on the beach, doing some Bible studies, playing games, and having some free time.

What is Garden City Chapel?
Only one of our favorite places to go to be together as a youth group.  It is located in Garden City Beach in Murrells Inlet, SC.  It is where we have gone for summer camp for the last several years.  This will be the first time we are going for Spring Break and we are excited to be going back!

Spots still available!
The cost is $160 ($135 for additional youth from the same family). Friends are welcome to join us! Sign-ups are going on now. Your deposit of $50, which is non-refundable, must be turned in by this date. You can even use our online registration feature and pay by credit card.  Go here to register online. The balance will be due on April 7. Get your deposit in now so you will not miss this great event! Make sure you are not the only one staying in Winston for Spring Break! Sign-up today!

Winter Jam is February 23!

WinterJam is a huge concert festival held every year in the Greensboro Coliseum.  We are pumped that we will be going this year AND we have reserved seats.  Some of the top artists will be there – Newsboys United, Danny Gokey, Mandissa, Rend Collective, Hollyn, Ledger, Newsong, and more.  It will be over 4 hours of music you will not want to miss.

Tickets are available now!  Tickets are $35 and we will purchase 25.  Once all 25 tickets are gone, we can not add any more.  So get your money in now.  Turn in a check made out to the church or pay online.  Youth, parents, friends are all invited.

We need 4 adults, including a couple of drivers.  If you are available, please let Jeff know.

Youth & Parent Meeting

January 27
6:00 – 7:30 PM
@ College Park

**NOTE THE NEW TIME & DATE**

As the new year begins, there are several things coming up for our youth ministry.  At this Youth and Parent meeting, will be discussing Dinner and a Show, changes to Youth Camp, and more.  We also need feedback on some questions we have regarding potential events.  My plan is for the big meeting to be quick so that we can get to work on the main event.

The major item to discuss is the Dinner and a Show.  There are 5 planning teams which we need to make the event happen.  Some parents have already picked a team and started working.  This meeting will be the time for everyone to pick and team and start planning.  We will spend the bulk of our time planning with our teams.  Here are the team choices:

  • Meal Planning and Preparation
  • Meal Service/Decoration
  • Show Planning and Preparation
  • Tickets/Promotion
  • Clean Up

We hope all of our youth and parents will be part of our upcoming planning meeting on January 27.  With so much going on this year, we want to make sure everyone is aware of what is happening.

Operation Christmas Child is here!

Our children and youth mission groups are working together on this year’s Operation Christmas Child, a ministry effort to share the joy of Christmas with children around the world. Our children and youth will be making gift boxes on Wednesday, November 7. We need donated items to go in the boxes.

These donations (suggested list below direct from a missionary) will be collected during the weeks leading up to November 7. Donation boxes will be placed in the hallway outside Smith Hall.

  • For any age boy here, what they really want is a soccer ball. So get the best quality mini soccer ball that you can fit into the box when it is inflated (or send a deflated ball with a pump) and you can basically forget about anything else!)
  • Brand new nice short-sleeved shirts (with no writing on them) for boys and girls. Kids have few clothes and often wear old, ripped, hand-me-downs.
  • Small flashlights with batteries (Most families don’t have electricity so a working flashlight is gold!)
  • Good quality melamine plates, bowls, and/or cups.
  • Bars of soap AND plastic soap dishes that have a cover.
  • Toothbrushes with toothbrush holders.
  • Pencils, erasers, colored pencils, and sharpeners for all school-aged kids. And good quality pens for kids aged 10-14, in black, red, green, and blue.
  • Jump ropes
  • Marbles
  • Harmonicas
  • Band-Aids
  • Hard candy and gum
  • Combs
  • Hair elastics or headbands for girls
  • Simple watches for older kids
  • Solar calculators for older kids
  • Sunglasses for older kids
  • Socks
  • For the youngest girls, baby dolls with light brown skin and no hair
  • Toy cars, trucks or airplanes for the youngest boys (The ones with bigger wheels that are made for toddlers and are larger than Matchbox size are good. Matchbox wheels are so small, they don’t work well in the dirt.)

Donations will be collected through November 7.

We need your help for Fall Fest!

Help us show the love of Christ to our community!

October 31, 5-8pm

fall fest

The Fall Family Festival is one of the big days around here. This year we will have inflatables and other activities outside starting at 5 PM! But we will not stop there.

We are headed back outside for this year’s event. We will be doing another “Trunk or Treat.” Basically, we would like decorated vehicle trunks for kids to come to visit. These vehicles will be placed on the front lawn of the church alongside the inflatables.

The trunks can be decorated with any child-centric theme like board games, cartoon characters, biblical themes, etc. The children will visit these cars to receive candy, other giveaways, & even play a game you create!

Because this year’s event is happening on Halloween night, we expect a huge number of children.

So we need 25 trunks this year!

We need individuals, couples, families, Sunday School classes, mission groups, etc. to sign up for a trunk. If you can help, call Jeff or send him an email at jeff@collegepark.ws.

We want to provide our community with a safe place & we can only do that with everyone playing a part!

Operation Christmas Child Boxing Party is Nov 7!

The Operation Christmas Child Boxing Party will begin at 6:30 pm on November 7. Our youth and children will be boxing up all of the items collected in the Operation Christmas Child Collection Drive. Help our youth and our children make a difference this Christmas for children around the world by donating items!
